Local artist and environmentalist Ken Kirkby
spearheads restoration efforts in the Salish Sea
by Linda Tenney
Lighthouse Country resident and acclaimed artist Ken Kirkby talks with Liam Moriarty, Environmental Reporter from KPLU in Seattle, about his efforts through the Nile Creek Enhancement Society (NCES) to restore depleted bull kelp and eel grass beds off the shore of Bowser, British Columbia.
What does this mean for the Salish Sea? It's still early in the project, but increasing numbers of herring, salmon, squid, greenlings and octopus have already returned to the area; evidence of more good things to come. With continuing conservation and restoration efforts, it can only get better.
Visit "Reflections on the Water" to learn how Ken Kirkby and the NCES has rallied the community to action, and the stewardship of one of our most important natural resources, the ocean that lies at the doorstep of Bowser, has become a priority. ~
